On November 28 this year, IAUD marked the 10th year since its founding by holding the 10th Anniversary IAUD Commemorative Event at Fuji Xerox R&D Square, Minatomirai, Yokohama City on Thursday, November 21. With 260 people including members of IAUD, local government, and the media in attendance, the event activities ended in a great success.


On the day, HIH Princess Yohko, who had been inaugurated as the new Patron of IAUD earlier in the year, attended the ceremony and gave a speech. In addition, Mr. Masayoshi Watanabe, Visiting Professor, Center for Regional Collaboration in Research and Education, Iwate University/Manufacturing Industries Bureau, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and Mr. Yoichi Satake, City Bureau, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism gave keynote lectures. There was also a panel discussion on the theme The Past 10 Years and the Next 10 years: UD in the Context of Cool Japan and Overseas Strategies.

IAUD Award 2013 Ceremony was also held. Mr. Shigeru Tsuyuki, a freelance announcer, acted as the MC.

The Grand Award, a total of 6 Gold Awards for each category, 7 Silver Awards, and 14 Awards were announced for the 38 entries (4 from overseas). Chairman Kazuo Okamoto presented the commendations, and the recipients of the Grand Award, and Gold Awards gave presentations.

In addition to the attendance of HIH Princess Yohko, Ms. Fumiko Hayashi, Mayor of Yokohama, was also in attendance as a guest and addressed attendants at the ceremony. After the toast, many attendants engaged in pleasant conversation and deepened their friendship.

In the lobby of the venue, panels introducing the main initiatives of IAUD, activities and results of the respective committees/study groups, and initiatives that received an IAUD Award 2013 were on display. During breaks attendants enthusiastically viewed the various displays.
