In the outdoor exhibition, the special planning exhibit "Design for Life-saving" featured various vehicles and equipment for use in times of disaster. The outdoor exhibition also hosted a number of participatory and spectator activities including fire ladder truck trials, fireboat demonstrations, inspection of an escort ship interior, and outdoor meal preparation by Japan's Self-Defense Force.
