Since it came to the attention of IAUD that the methods and procedures of providing transportation information to commuters and travelers at places like train stations and bus terminals vary from one company to the next, the IAUD Mobile Space Project has been studying the “seams” in the crossover from one service to another. To investigate this issue, the IAUD Mobile Space Project prepared the Mobile Information UD Survey as a tool. We invite all persons interested in Universal Design to make use this survey in local government, transportation companies, schools and other public and private organizations. We welcome all comments and requests regarding the survey.
The IAUD Mobile Space Project is an initiative for realizing a travel environment where “all people can travel safely and comfortably wherever they want to go” through what we term “seamless mobility” in travel information.
For details on this project, see “Case Study: the Mobile Space Project, an Initiative in Realizing Seamless Mobile Space,” IAUD Newsletter Vol. 2 No. 9, pages 16-22 IAUD Newsletter Vol. 2 No. 9 (December 2009 issue) (PDF file 4.6MB)
The survey presents various discretionary study scenarios where each subject is able to evaluate in a series of tasks the ease of locating and understanding transportation guide information. After conducting the survey in various locations a number of times, we made a number of improvements to enable its wide use in places like train stations and bus terminals and to enable us to obtain valuable insights from the perspective of subjects with first hand experience.
For details of the above, see the Survey Guide
After the field study, travel guide information can be tabulated according to each task and assessment item to identify problem areas. This will enable us to make the problem points to stand out. We recommend that you follow a method of collation in line with the objectives of the survey.
