IAUD receives Barrier Free Promotion-Contributor Award

The Cabinet Office recognizes individuals and organizations demonstrating outstanding achievements and services in promoting barrier-free universal designs. The ceremony for the 2011 Barrier-Free Promotion Contributor Awards was held on Friday, December 9, 2011 at the Grand Hall of the Prime Minister’s official residence. In recognition of its contribution to universal design, IAUD received the Minister of State Encouragement Award.

This commendation was launched at the Second Meeting of Cabinet Ministers for a barrier-free society, held on November 6, 2001 to recognize individuals and organizations for their outstanding service in promoting barrier-free universal design and to widely promote excellent initiatives in universal design.

IAUD received recognition as “one of the largest organizations in Japan striving for the sound development and creation of a favorable living environment for society through the ongoing promotion and realization of universal design, and contributing to the promotion of these activities across all sectors of society through its sponsorship of the International Conferences for Universal Design as a venue for announcing progress in research and initiatives undertaken by the organization.

Mr. Fumiyo Kojima, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Mr. Sumio Nishimura, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors, who were in attendance at the award ceremony, received the award certificate and commemorative shield trophy on behalf of IAUD.
