Srinivasa Popuri

Senior Human Settlements Officer at Regional Office of Asia and Pacific, UN-Habitat in Fukuoka : Japan

Profile >>

Based on years of advising national governments and working with grassroots organizations in dealing post disaster reconstruction and their efforts to make such recovery a 'people-centred' way, Mr. Popuri will briefly cover his journey with UN-Habitat in advancing the Habitat agenda of 'safer and sustainable human settlements and adequate shelter for all'.

In the context of International Day of Disaster Reduction (IDRR Day, 13th October), he will give an overview of international efforts for reducing impact of disasters. To relate the story, he will share first hand experiences of disasters in the Asia and the Pacific region with his own learning of the events and why he consider disasters as Agents of Learning, Change, Peace and Hope!

He will then narrate various stakeholders (the government, the United Nations and the Habitat) real time efforts in making a highly disaster prone country in the SE Asian Region, Myanmar, a safer place to live.
