Pre-Conference Program Field Survey:Chartered Bus Tour (paid event, approx. 30 participants each) November 9 (Sunday)

More than three and a half years elapsed now since the Great East Japan Earthquake Disaster, but approximately ninety thousand people are still living in temporary housing in Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima prefectures.

Furthermore, more than forty-seven thousand residents in Fukushima prefecture have been evacuated to outside of the prefecture and are not able to return, even now, due to the delay of the construction of public housing for disaster and of the development of residential areas on higher lands.

If returning home could be realized, the recovery of industries is too slow and insufficient to secure full employment. We must admit that the restoration of disaster areas has not progressed as much as expected.

IAUD, the largest and the most powerful UD association in Japan with more than ten years’ achievement, will conduct a much-awaited field survey in Fukushima in order to solve challenging problems from UD perspective under a theme of “Recovery and Rehabilitation in Fukushima.”

Overseas and Japanese participants will review the disaster and recovery situation in 3 groups.  Through a dialogue with local people, they will see what UD can do for rehabilitation of Fukushima and explore the concrete design development and business proposal in open workshop to be held on next day, November 10.
