Yoshiko Shiotani

Ex-governor of Kumamoto / Board Chairperson, Japan College of Social Work: Japan

Profile :

Born in Saga Prefecture, Japan, Yoshiko Shiotani graduated from Nihon Shakai Jigyo University. After working as a social work manager in Oita Prefecture, Prof. Shiotani became the head of the Ji Ai En Infant Home in Kumamoto Prefecture. In 1999, she was appointed vice-governor of Kumamoto. She assumed the office of governor in 2000 and served 2 terms. She advocated for "Universal Design" as a basic principle for the prefectural government.　In April 2009, she became the president of Nagasaki International University. She retired from Nagasaki International University in March 2012. In May 2012, Prof. Shiotani became the director of Nihon Shakai Jigyo University.
