Rama Gheerawo

Deputy Director, Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design, Royal College of Art: UK

Rama Gheerawo is Deputy Director of the Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design at the Royal College of Art. With over 15 years in the design industry, he has a passion for people-centred design thinking. He leads the Centre's Age & Ability research lab creating practical design ideas to improve the lives of people of all ages and abilities. Transport, technology and design for neuro-diversity are key areas of focus. He is in demand as a keynote speaker across the globe. Rama writes, curates exhibitions and runs workshops nationally and internationally for audiences that range from students to business executives. Knowledge transfer to business is central to his work, building on a track record of over 100 collaborative projects with companies that include BlackBerry®, Samsung and Toyota. Rama has had articles published recently in Volume magazine, New Design and the Journal of Design Philosophy Papers. He is keen to expand the role of universal design, looking at how it can become more business-ready and more engaged with social issues.
