Sawang Srisom

Thailand Accessibility Freelancer, Chulalongkorn University: Thailand

Sawang is an advocate on the rights of people with disabilities. He works as a programmemanager for ‘Transportation for All (T4A)’, which is a group that advocates for public transport to become more accessible to people with disabilities and all users requiring access. He has been part of the movement that mobilises efforts to help the BTS, the first sky train in Bangkok, and other modes of public transport become more accessible. Apart from public transport, he is also interested in other disability rights such as employment, education, livelihood, etc. Additionally, he is one of the Disability Equality Trainers in Thailand and Asia-Pacific who have conducted a number of disability equality trainings domestically and internationally.

In almost past 2 decades, Sawang has worked for 3 international organisations in Asia-Pacific and ASEAN regions. All of them support human rights of people with disabilities in various aspects of development. He is now studying the Master of Arts in International Development Studies (MAIDS) at Chulalongkorn University and is going to write a thesis on the PracticalityModel Versus Occasionality Model of Access to the Rail Transport in Bangkok Metropolitan Region (BMR). He insists that public transport should be designed for practical use, not occasional, for all users.
