Having served as an executive of the Tokyo Electric Power Co. until June 2010 prior to the Great Easter Japan Earthquake, I feel deeply responsible for the nuclear disaster.

Originally coming from Minamisoma in Fukushima prefecture, I engaged in volunteer activities a total of 6 times from March 19, directly after the earthquake, until May the same year in order to deliver relief supplies to Minamisoma, which is now suffering the effects of harmful rumors.

On one of these occasions, I met a lady when I was delivering supplies. “I want you to build a structure that will help the local children,” she requested.

I considered the creation of a new structure to support the growth of the children and also assist in dispelling the harmful rumors and restoring confidence in Fukushima.

The Fukushima Solar and Agriculture Experience Association will commence experience-based educational activities for local elementary school pupils with “enthusiasm for life” as the fundamental concept from April 2013. These activities will be held at the Minamisoma Solar Agripark, which combines the solar power plant and the plant factory and will support the growth of the young generation who will be responsible for reconstruction in the future.
