Daisuke Uehara

"Barrier-Overcoming" Expert Tokyo2020 Promotion Office Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics Promotion Division, NEC Corporation / Silver Medalist at the 2010 Vancouver Paralympic Games: Japan


Daisuke is an ice sledge hockey player. As a member of the Japan Paralympic Sledge Hockey Team  Daisuke played in the 2006 Paralympic Winter Games in Torino, Italy. He also contributed to Team Japan’s second-place finish at the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver, B.C., Canada, by scoring the game-winning goal that won the silver medal.

Daisuke’s slogan is “Let’s meet in person, talk and let me show you”, and is actively involved in popularizing ice sledge hockey as a sport for anyone, with or without disabilities. He holds workshops for youth athletes and organises sport camps for children with impairments.

In 2014, he was selected by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) as one of the top 10 ice sledge hockey players of all time despite Team Japan’s elimination from the Sochi 2014 Paralympic qualification tournaments.

From October 2016, he is working at NEC as Barrier-Overcoming Expert.

2010 Silver medal at the Vancouver Paralympic Games
2009 3rd at Canada Cup (test tournaments towards the Vancouver Paralympic games)
4th at IPC Sledge Hockey World Championships in Ostrava
2008 4th at IPC Sledge Hockey World Championships in Marlborough
2006 5th at the Torino Paralympic Games

2010 - TV Documentary (Station: NNN) featuring Daisuke’s youth workshop programme where children try ice sledge hockey.

He also gives talks on topics including “Dreams are there for you to make come true”, “Challenging yourself is the first step towards your dreams”, “friendship”, “trusting your children 100% will help them grow to be more than 100%”
