Reading environment – how we can improve it with typography

Typographic Designer: UK

Profile >>

Written information is everywhere, all the time. Churned out through screens and printers, traffic signs, notice boards, mixed with incomprehensible foreign letters more and more because of the internationalization of every aspect of our lives. So, the perception is that the major objective for letter and document design is to improve legibility and readability, and to enhance economy and ecology to minimize waste. With the increasing demand for multi-language processing, today's designers inevitably deal with typography in a broad sense, using advanced digital technologies. However, when designing fonts (typefaces) and layout for e-readers (books), we can often benefit a great deal from our predecessors' long established professional knowledge and techniques for making typefaces and books, by applying fine and subtle adjustments by hand. I would like to consider all these tasks in the spirit of Universal Design, with some of my own work and experience.
