Yoshiko Shiotani

Born in Saga Prefecture in 1939, Yoshiko graduated from Japan College of Social Work and became a social welfare officer in Saga Prefecture in 1962. Worked as a social welfare officer in Oita Prefecture from 1964, and at Jiaien Baby Home from 1972. Appointed Governor of Kumamoto in 1999, she is currently in her second term. Member of a number of committees including the Land, Infrastructure and Transportation Council and the Central Conference for the Promotion of Measures for Disable Persons. Major publications include Kokoro no Memori (Memories from the Heart), Kokoro no Tanjo (Birth of a Heart) and Jido Fukushi wo Manabu (Learning Child Welfare).
