Started to participate in consumer campaigns at the establishment of Japan Housewives’ Association in 1948 with its first Chairman Mumeo Oku (member of the House of Councilors). Hatoko Shimizu was promoted successively to Secretary General, Vice Chairman and Chairman (1995-1999) of the Japan Housewives’ Association, and is now serving as Councilor.
In terms of universal design, she has gone through the member of Universal Design Roundtable, Preparation Committee for Original JIS Plan Designed with Caring for the Elderly and People with Disabilities, Industrial Discussion on Welfare Equipment, etc.
