Larry Goldberg

Larry Goldberg is the Director of Media Access at WGBH, Boston’s public broadcaster. He oversees the production of captioning and video description and leads the research and development department – the WGBH National Center for Accessible Media (NCAM).


Mr. Goldberg is a pioneer and recognized world expert in the technology, policy and business aspects of making media and technology accessible to all. He has traveled to Israel, England, Brazil, Japan and throughout the United States to advise businesses, governments, academics and non-government organizations on how to improve their communications technologies.


Mr. Goldberg helped develop the new implemented captioning system for digital television in the U.S. He was awarded a patent for “Rear WindowTM”, the first closed captioning system for movie theaters and theme parks. He served on the U.S. Access Board committee which established the Section 508 rules and is a member of numerous advisory boards within industry, consumer organizations and academia. He currently serves on two Federal Communications Commission Committees and is a board member of the Alliance for Public Technology and of Adaptive Environments of Boston.


Mr. Goldberg graduated from the University of Southern California with a B.A. in Broadcast Journalism.
