Fritz Frenkler

Industrial Design

Born in Germany, Fritz Frenkler graduated from the Department of Industrial Design of HBK Braunschweig (Academy of Fine Arts Braunschweig) in 1983.

He started to exercise his career in 1984 at frogdesign, Germany and was promoted to the positions of design director of frogdesign in the U.S.A. (1985) and President of frogdesign Asia (1986). Between 1992 and 1999, he was President of wiege Wilkhahn EntwicklungsGmbH. Since april 1999, he has the position of President of DBM (Deutsche Bahn Medien GmbH) and of Chief Designer of Deutsche Bahn AG.

In 2000, Fritz Frenkler established the Frankfurt-based f/p design deutschland gmbh with Anette Ponholzer, followed by the opening of f/p design japan inc. in 2003 in Kyoto.

Fritz Frenkler is Regional Advisor of ICSID (International Council of Societies of Industrial Design). He is a long standing member of the Board of iF design (Industrie Forum Design Hannover) and, since 1999, chairman of the jury of the iF product design awards. He is one of the founder members of universal design e.V. (2006), a non-profit association with a keen interest in all aspects of universal design.

Fritz Frenkler was nominated Honorary Professor in the Department of Industrial Design in HBK Braunschweig (Academy of Fine Arts Braunschweig) in 2005. In 2006, he is appointed to a University Professorship on the Chair of Industrial Design in TU Muenchen (Technische Universitaet Muenchen).
