Seiji Sawada

Born in 1942 in Nagano Prefecture. After graduating from the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering, University of Tokyo in 1964, he becomes involved in architectural designing and technology development at Masao Ootaka Architect and Associates, Nihon Sekkei Inc., and a design office in Germany. From 1976 to 1978, he conducted a comparative research on housing policies in Japan and Europe in a Humboldt Foundation fellowship program. He joined Shimizu Corporation in 1982. In 2001, he joined the School of Environmental Science of the University of Shiga Prefecture (Department of Environmental Planning). He has had his current position at Meiji University since 2003 and has been advocating the refurbishing of aging housing for a decade.
He is the vice chairman of NPO Danchi Saisei Kenkyukai and the vice chairman of the Industry Group for Housing Refurbishment.
