Announcing IAUD AWARD 2010


Award rogotypeThe International Association for Universal Design (IAUD) acts on its basic principle to "contribute to improving the wellbeing of humankind, through contributing to the sound development of society by the realization and dissemination of universal design."
As part of its activities the IAUD AWARD 2010 will be presented to individuals and organizations for outstanding activities and contributions towards the realization of a UD society in which as many people as possible can enjoy a meaningful and comfortable life free from inconveniences suffered due to differences in ethnic or cultural origin, customs, nationality, sex, age or capacity.


Registration Requirement of IAUD AWARD 2010

Application qualifications:

Applications are invited from individuals, groups, businesses and organizations implementing "activities to realize a UD society". Sub-organizations, such as specific stores and teams are also qualified to apply.

  • UD dissemination and promotion activities through personnel education.
  • Activities related to the development and supply of UD products and services (note: specific products and services are excluded.)
  • All other activities that can contribute to the realization of a UD society.


How to Apply

Please download from our website designated application materials (application form and information), fill in required information, and send the completed form to IAUD AWARD division, the Secretariat of International Association for Universal Design (IAUD) by regular / business mail or e-mail (please note the file must not exceed 5MB).

*Please fill in the application form in English or Japanese.

*Please pay any expenses involved in making your application.



Criteria and method of selection

  • Criteria for selection shall be that an applicant "holds UD as its principle of operation, and as a result is conducting outstanding activities." A comprehensive assessment will be made both on the application of the principle and the outcome of activities conducted.
  • Decisions will be made by members of a selection committee examining the application documents.

*Applications falling into the following categories will be excluded from selection and may incur revocation of an award even after it has been announced:
Violation of public order, good custom, and laws and regulations, infringement of copyright or third party rights; Refusal to exhibit, publish or upload on the internet contents of an application.



Application deadline

Application must be postmarked no later than August 31, 2010.
* Closing date for application is extended.

*Membership of the Selection Committee is subject to change.



Awards

Grand Award: Awarded to the individual or organization deemed to be most outstanding.
Excellence Awards: To those deemed to have excellent achievements.

*The Awards Ceremony will take place during the 3rd International Conference for Universal Design in HAMAMATSU 2010. The recipient of an award, or a representative if a group is selected, will be invited to the Conference with his or her registration fee exempted, and will make a presentation on the achievement for which the award was given.

*There will be no monetary award.

*There may not be an appropriate awardee for each award.



Notification and announcement of selection results

  • Winner(s) of the Excellence Award will be notified in early October. Name/s will also be published on the IAUD website.
  • The winner of the Grand Award will be announced during the Award Ceremony taking place at the 3rd International Conference for Universal Design in HAMAMATSU 2010 from October 30 to November 3, 2010.


Please note the following

  • Registration fees will be waived for a representative of recipients of the awards. However, please pay travel and accommodation expenses.
  • Achievements for which the awards are made will be introduced on panels in the exhibition hall, and will also be published on the IAUD website after the official announcement.
  • Application documents will not be returned. Contents of applications including private information will not be used for any purpose other than the selection process.
  • Inquiries regarding details of the selection process, names of unsuccessful applicants or reasons for their failure will not be answered. Decisions of the Selection Committee are final, and complaints regarding the selection results will not be accepted.

  • Application period…June 14 to August 31, 2010
  • Examination period…September 7 to 28, 2010
  • Communicating the selection results…Early October, 2010
  • Deadline for submission by winners of their presentation materials…October 20, 2010.
  • Examination of the Grand Award…October 30, 2010
  • Awards Ceremony/Presentation…will take place during the 3rd International Conference for Universal Design in HAMAMATSU 2010 from October 30 to November 3, 2010. We will inform you as soon as the program is finalized.
